The Toddler Rooms – 3 to 5 Years
Tigger’s is our preschool room for children aged 2.5 to 5 years. This room helps children get ready for school in a natural and playful way, building independence, early phonics and number skills, creativity, confidence, problem-solving and friendships through everyday activities and routines.
Children have free-flow access between learning areas and are encouraged to explore, investigate and follow their curiosity through play, role play, creative activities, quiet spaces and hands-on experiences. Learning is guided by the EYFS framework and tailored to each child’s stage of development, helping them build the personal, social and academic skills they need for their next step.
As children grow in confidence, they are encouraged to become more independent while still receiving the individual attention and support they need to thrive. Our aim is for every child to leave Tigger’s feeling curious, capable and ready for school.
Room Overview

Getting Ready for School
School readiness is at the heart of Tigger’s, but it goes far beyond learning letters and numbers.
Children are supported to follow routines, listen in groups, make choices, communicate confidently, build friendships and manage small challenges. They are encouraged to become increasingly independent while always knowing support is close by.
Our staff ask questions, introduce new vocabulary, extend children’s ideas and encourage them to think for themselves. We want every child to leave Tigger’s feeling capable, confident and excited about starting school.
Learning & Development
Children learn through play, curiosity and everyday experiences.
Learning includes early phonics, early maths, mark making, creative activities, stories, music, construction, role play, outdoor learning and problem-solving. Children are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas and follow their interests.
Creative experiences allow children to express themselves through painting, craft, music, storytelling and imaginative play. Everyday activities also develop teamwork, resilience and independence as children learn to share, take turns, solve problems and work together.
By building on children’s interests, staff help develop language, thinking skills, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
Play continues to be the best way for preschool children to learn. Through exciting activities and everyday experiences, we help children build the confidence and skills they need for school and beyond.

A Typical Day
Arrival & Free Play
Children are welcomed into the room and begin the day by exploring activities, seeing friends and settling into familiar routines.
Group Time
Children come together for songs, stories and conversations that encourage listening, communication and confidence.
Early Learning Through Play
Children develop early phonics, maths, problem-solving and independence through engaging, play-based activities.
Lunch & Social Time
Mealtimes give children the opportunity to enjoy healthy food while practising independence, conversation and good manners.
Stories & Reflection
Stories and quieter activities help children relax, reflect on their day and enjoy time together before home time.
Home Time & Parent Update
Before home time, we share updates on your child’s learning, achievements and the memorable moments from their day.
Parent Information
Working with Parents
We keep parents updated on their child’s progress, confidence, routines and school readiness. If additional support is needed with language, confidence or routines, we work together to agree on the best approach.
What to Bring
Spare clothes, coat, suitable outdoor clothing, wellies where needed and any agreed comfort items.
Settling In
Every child settles differently. Settling sessions help children become familiar with the room, staff, routines and other children before they begin attending regularly.
